Prefixes

A prefix is a letter or group of letters added to the beginning of a root word to make a new word

So the prefix un can be added to the root word happy to make a new word - unhappy.

In this example the prefix un means not so unhappy means not happy.

Here is a list of common and not so common prefixes for you to think about:
